Better Reading

Tá Gaelscoil Uí Earcáin ar cheann de na scoileanna atá páirteach i scéim Pháirtíochta Tolka Area atá ag cur na scéime léitheoireachta “The Better Reading Scheme” i bhfeidhm.
Tá an t-ádh ar an scoil seo bheith páirteach sa scéim seo le cúpla bliain anuas. Beidh seisear páirteach sa scéim seo i mbliana (2012-2013) agus tá súil againn go mbeidh deis ag níos mó páistí páirt a ghlacadh ann nuair a chuirfear traenáil ar óglaigh eile. Tá súil againn go gcabhróidh an tionscnamh seo le léitheoireacht na bpáistí sa Ghaeilge agus sa Bhéarla. Tá bileog eolais faoi iamh ag míniú mar a oibríonn an scéim.
Gaelscoil Uí Earcáin is one of the schools involved with The Tolka Area Partnership, who have introduced The Better Reading Scheme. This school is lucky to be included in such a scheme for the past few years. We are delighted to be involved in the project and hope as more volunteers are trained more children can partake each year. For the school year 2012-2013 we have an opportunity for 6 children to participate. We hope that this project will help the children’s English and Irish reading. The informational sheet below explains how the scheme works.
The Better Reading Partnership
The Better Reading Partnership aspires to encourage children to increase their awareness and understanding of literacy and reading, and therefore, it envisages that the child will in turn participate and interact more in the classroom. This programme is based on a trained, Garda vetted volunteer working with a child on a one to one basis, for 20 minutes a day, three times a week, for a period of ten weeks.
“The literacy skills these children have learnt and now clearly understand are due to the Better Reading Partnership, offering additional support to students, parents and teachers. The Better Reading Partnership has impacted greatly on the children, not only academically but also with regard to a new found confidence in the subject, greater social and interaction skills during all class subjects. The children, who previously struggled with reading, now display increasing confidence with the subject. This confidence with literacy and reading will accompany them throughout their lives”
