TRIPLE P - PARENTING DURING COVID-19
Free Fearless Seminar Tuesday 9th June @7.30pm via ZOOM
Reducing Anxiety in Children (aged 6-12)
Call 018642941 or DM us on Facebook (@betterfinglasireland) to reserve a place.
As parents, we ourselves may be feeling a range of uncomfortable feelings (including anxiety, anger, and sadness); as well as uncertainty about what to do and how we can cope. These feelings are entirely reasonable and normal. It is important to remember (and to remind children) that communities are working together to keep people safe (e.g. healthcare workers who are looking after people with the virus; supermarkets bringing in new rules to allow more vulnerable people to do their shopping safely). Anxiety can affect day to day functioning and family life. Children may avoid social situations and activities and seek constant reassurance and can feel sick when worried. Being a parent to a child who is experiencing anxiety can be tough.
Better Finglas will facilitate a Fearless Seminar via Zoom, the talk will cover the following:
• How does anxiety work?
• Understanding anxiety
• Parents as models
• Being an emotion coach
• Managing children’s anxious behavior
• Constructive coping and problem solving.

Parents are introduced to six core building blocks for children to manage their feelings and become resilient in dealing with life stress. These competencies are:
• Recognising and accepting feelings.
• Expressing feelings appropriately.
• Building a positive outlook.
• Developing coping skills.
• Dealing with negative feelings.
• Dealing with stressful life events.
